Reflection: November 30, 2011

Today I feel proud of myself because I actually got to work and did a lot. I started my process journal in google docs so I can have access to it whenever and wherever. I also had to change some of my blog posts because I was going to do digital communication and since I changed it, I needed accurate information for my theme. I changed my facts for the Digital Law and not for digital communication. I started my thesis on my theme and also did a summary on my new facts. I started the bibliography so I can continue adding more if I need to, and I will update everything I did.

PSA Reflection

Today, I got together with my partner and decided that under Digital Law, we will do Identity Theft. We talked about what is is and it basically means that thieves steal your identity, credit cards, social security cards, bills, and other personal information. We talked about how there are many ways of thieves to do that and thought about the possible ways we can make the people watching our video understand and become aware of this theme.
We have assigned ourselves some homework. We will think of the different ways to create this project and we will basically brainstorm some ideas each so we can talk about them and decide on which one to do. Since we have already talked about two ways thieves steal your identity, we already have started to create ideas. One of them is that we are teenagers and we are about to go to college, but when we are applying for some kind of financial aid, we are denied to that privilege because of some money we own to companies. This can be one easy way to create our project because we are teenagers and we wouldn't need as many props or settings so it is easy for us.
By using the Attitudes in Technology Criterion F Rubric, I would give myself a 100 because I have constantly been working, and better, in partner. I am 100% committed with my partner to create this project. I will be very helpful if my partner, Marisol, has any problem during the procedure of the making of this video and I will do my part creating this video so I won't let my partner do everything. I will be a part of creating this video and I will get a good grade in this Criterion, Attitudes in Technology.

1. The 2011 Identity Fraud Survey Report reports showed that the number of victims that suffered from identity fraud decreased by 28 percent to 8.1 million adults in the United States. The results showed that in the year prior to that there was three million more victims. Source
2. Two out of three victims that suffer from identity theft are unaware of the source of the crime
3. A survey of more than 1,500 identity theft victims shows that approximately three out of four, or 72%, do not know the source of the crime, according to ITAC, the Identity Theft Assistance Center.
4. Of the 1,530 victims helped by ITAC, twenty-eight percent said they knew the source of the crime.
Followed by computer-related identity crime (21.6%).
Lost/stolen wallet, checkbook or credit card accounts for 15.1%
Corrupt businesses or employees also at (11.6%)
And breaches of consumer data accounted for 4.7% of the cases
5. Although all types of fraud declined over the past year, new account fraud was responsible for the greatest fraud amount ($17 billion). New account fraud, in which accounts have been opened without the victim’s knowledge, is harder to detect and is the most likely to severely impact the victims. Existing card fraud amounts declined by 38 percent to $14 billion from $23 billion in 2009.
6. Friendly fraud - fraud perpetrated by people known to the victim, such as a relative or roommate - grew seven percent last year, with consumers between the ages of 25-34 most likely to be victims of this type of fraud. People in this age group are most likely to have their Social Security number (SSN) stolen—with 41 percent of fraud victims in this group reporting theft of their SSN.
Source: ITAC (Identity Theft Assistance Center)
7. A breakdown of the figures in identity theft since 2005 in the US ranks credit card fraud with the highest number of fraud at 26%. Source
8. The median value of goods and services obtained by identity thieves was $500, while 10% of the population experienced a theft of $6,000 or more. Source
9. Next on line in Identity theft statistics accounting for 18 % of all cases is phone and utility fraud. In this form of fraud, an identity thief will assume your identity through accessing your phone and utility bills and goes on to impersonate the owner of the information for their own purposes. These contacts are mostly sold to another party who will use it to fraudulently obtain money. Source
10. While victims are finding out about their cases earlier, it is taking far longer now than before to eliminate negative information from credit reports. Source

DIGITAL LAW THESIS :)

Digital Law:   electronic responsibility for actions and deeds
Digital law deals with the ethics of technology within a society. Unethical use manifests itself in form of theft and/or crime. Ethical use manifests itself in the form of abiding by the laws of society. Users need to understand that stealing or causing damage to other people’s work, identity, or property online is a crime. There are certain rules of society that users need to be aware in a ethical society. These laws apply to anyone who works or plays online. Hacking into others information, downloading illegal music, plagiarizing, creating destructive worms, viruses or creating Trojan Horses, sending spam, or stealing anyone’s identify or property is unethical.

Digital Law can affect our future by the choices we make on our technological world. Everything we post from passwords, social security numbers, and many documents can be used in your contrary.

IA part2

1. How can my learning serve my community?
By me learning this design cycle, I can serve my community by being a more organized person.  Being organized helps in many ways. I believe that I person can influence the whole community. And not only because of the design cycle learning, but with everything else. Whatever someone learns, either good or bad, can influence or inspire the people around you, your community.

2. How can your future projects become better?
By investing more time on my future projects I will definitely help the scores of my final products. Being more creative and more fluent in the investigate, plan, and design stages will give me a head start really fast. That way I won't be changing my product every time. The final product will be of better quality and I will finish faster but in a more organized way.

3. What have you learned about yourself and what you will continue to do or not do and why?
What I learned about myself is that I procrastinate too much. I always knew that I did, but I never thought of it that much. I learned that if I want my work to be done correctly and I am on track, I will not be on a rush and all worried at the end of what my grade will be. I also learned that I need to take every single class seriously and it's better to do homework at home and be over with it, than doing it one class before you have to turn it in. I learned things that will help me be more relaxed.

4. How do you feel about your final product? What would you rate yourself on the Rubric scale of 1-6 for each part of the Assessment Criterion?
I rate my final product a 5-6 overall. I know I could have done better, but it is also a very good result. I believe this really teaches what the design cycle is and it's entertaining. In the investigate stage, I rate myself a 6 because I really looked into the webpages and products I could create and investigated them truly. In the plan, I rate myself a 5. I know I did a good job, but I feel like I just did it like whatever and didn't really pay attention to it. In the Create stage, I rate myself a 4 because I didn't follow the deadlines I planned, but I still could have a good final result. For the evaluate stage, I rate myself a 6 because I look into detail all the problems of the whole process and what I could have done better.

5. What would you do differently in regards to your planning and execution of your plan?
I would think of myself and the time and effort I am really going to put into the project. With that, I would create a more realistic plan stage and deadlines for the product. By the create stage, I will execute the project and follow my plan stage just like I planned and create the product with the deadlines specified. I will try better, make a better effort, not procrastinate, and be more successful next time.

Create, October 7

Here is the video of my progress so far.
Today I continued creating the video that I started last class. I added more characters and the scripts and voices. I changed different things I had but did a good job at advancing. I just finished the introduction and now I have to start explaining the design cycle very carefully and with detail. Next class time I will continue with the same project and add more fun stuff.

10/1- Day2 -- 30min..... Create an account and start making the characters.
10/2- Day3 -- 30min..... Finish making the characters and create a setting.
10/3- Day4 -- 30min..... Start making the video and add the voices.
10/4- Day5 -- 30min..... Do the last minute changes and save the video.
10/5- Day6 -- 30min..... Start on the survey I will give the 6th graders.
10/6- Day6 -- 20min..... Review everything I have done and add changes if needed.
10/7- Day7 -- 20min..... Evaluate my create stage.

Investigation Reflection

I would rate myself by giving me a 5-6. I believe that I explained every detail of the websites and discussed the relevance of it and if I understood it or not. I truly investigated the problems of each website and evaluated by writing what could be better and what I could do with it. When I researched I looked into every button and gadget that the video maker offered me to use. Tutorials helped a lot to know and understand the source. I described the methods they showed me and that I used and evaluated the product I could use.

Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
I must complete this project by some deadlines.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
There are different deadlines for each part of the design cycle.
13. How will you "test" your project?
After showing the 6th graders my project, I will give them a survey of what they learned.

Investigation Comparison

For doing a video to show a 6th grader what the design cycle really is there are many webpages that I can use and that kids will enjoy. I chose Clipgenerator because it looked simple to use and I thought could catch the eye of a kid. When I entered the webpage, I scanned through it and found different things you could choose from. Event though it seemed easy, in simplicity I rated this a 3 because this page is more professional like, for example something a college student would use to do their project. Since I'm trying to teach a 6th grader I thought this wouldn't be as simple to explain to them.
When it is about theme choices, you think that you need many of them, and creative ones also, so it can be fun. When I went into this to get a tutorial, I immediately looked for the different themes that I could use. When I saw that there was 10 different ones, with just posting pictures, I liked the idea. I thought, how can I reach my goal by showing pictures. Since I am a student, I put myself in that position. Do I really want to watch a video with just pictures without anything else? No, I wanted to create something interesting and I thought that watching pictures of the design cycle wouldn't be as fun. Since there was 10 themes but only pictures, this is why I rated Theme Choices a 1.
When I saw that the theme was just posting the pictures, I knew that there were not going to be any characters but the people or things in the pictures. This didn't seem as a good idea. I wanted something where kids could remember the characters and quotes. That is why I rated this a 1. I would later on look for something that could really interest the kids and myself.
In font choices, I give a rating of 2. The idea of this video, as I learn, is to JUST show pictures. I looked for various choices of fonts but nothing comes out. This is why I rated a 2. I understand the idea of the pictures showing but I would also like to explain. If not, you could just watch it but not pay attention.
What I really liked about the Clipgenerator is the music choices. Like most of the video making pages, you either have to download your music in it, or choose from the lame songs there. Here there are about 10 choices of different songs, but this music is the popular music that the kids and adolescents want to hear. This is why I rated the music choices a 5.
In total, I rated the clipgenerator in general with a 12 out of 25. I added all the scores and decided that it was a reasonable score for this page. I thought I would look for something else that I could enjoy generating and demonstrating.

GoAnimate

GoAnimate was my second option for this project. I chose this as another choice because when I entered the website it looked fun, I thought it would maybe interest a 6th grader.
After I created a log in account I played and tried to create a video just to examine the process and that way be able to rate it on simplicity. The setup of the video making is very simple. There are tabs for everything and the tutorial explains step by step what you have to do to accomplish the making of the video. This video website is simple to use. I rated it a 4 because there are still many buttons I'm not familiar with. I still need to play a little more to really learn how to handle the buttons and create an exemplary video.
When it is about choosing different themes, there are about 6 - 8 different places or settings. The characters can be inserted in a coffe house, living room, bedroom, and other places. This is something to think about, I want to choose a setting that can really show or help the student understand and concentrate on what the characters are talking about. The option of 6 thru 8 different layouts helped me take the decision of rating it a 5. Because of the many different things I can choose, I think this is excellent.
Characters are a big part of the video I have to implement. That is why I looked very closely into this subject. I learned that, starting out, you need to chose between girl or boy. Then you can change their hair, face, clothes, and many other things. This is what interested me from the making of the characters. I thought that it would be fun for me to create a unique character and show it to the kids. Probably, I could make a funny person and make the 6th graders laugh. I was about to grade it a 5, but then I found out that for some choices of character traits, including hair, eyes, clothes, and everything else, you needed to pay for them. So not everything is for free. Everything else is fine, that is why I rated characters a 4.
What the characters will say is probably the most important thing on the video because this is what the 6th graders will be learning the design cycle from. What the characters say, their script, I inserted it under the fonts column. I rated this a 5 because you can chose to write whatever you want your character to say. The best part of it is that the character will pronounce it, sometimes, in a different way, which makes some phrases catchy. Making the phrases catchy will help the kid remember and repeat the sentence over and over again so they, unconsciously, will learn the design cycle.
There are not many different music choices, but there are different tones or background music you can add. I liked this because it can help the 6th grader concentrate on the words of the character, not the lyrics to the songs. This is why I rated it a 3, even though there is different tones, I would like more freedom in the background noises so it could seem more real. This would also interest the 6th graders more than just hearing hollow voices talking without any noise but that, I would think of this as very annoying.
In total, GoAnimate has a final score of 21. I refer to this website as a great place to create an animated video, and I think this is one of the best ways to explain to them the design cycle. The cute little characters and the animated and colorful setting, I think, would be the best way to catch the 6th graders eye. I will probably choose this website to create my project because, in my opinion, it is way more interesting and fun than clipgenerator.

Investigation Reflection

Today, I decided I wanted to do a video. I went to Mrs. Hinojosa's blog and clicked on animated games which took me to GoAnimate. Here I researched how to use it and went through the tutorial on how to make a video. I learned that you can choose between many different backgrounds, characters, movements, and text. I made a sample video and realized there is a comic strip that I can use to arrange and organize the  set and time. The other link I clicked to compare to this was " find a tool to create almost anything". I looked at the lit that was posted on video tools and found Clipgenerator. What I liked about this program is that you can choose any kind of popular music. I looked at some sample videos and saw that the content of the video was actually pictures, not animated figures.
I decided to use GoAnimate for my project because, since we have to teach a 6th grader, I think an animated video with text will help more and will interest them into the theme. In Clipgenerator, the music will attract them but it will probably drag the attention to the song lyrics and not the purpose of the design cycle.
